Here’s a short play adapted from the Cornish tale The Mermaid of Zennor. In the story, a young man named Mathey (Mathew, Cornish spelling, or Matthew) falls in love with a girl from the sea who is transfixed by his singing in church. There are several different versions of the tale. The play is only 5-10 minutes. Why not perform it as puppet or shoebox theatre?

This paper puppet of the Mermaid of Zennor can be cut out and assembled using paper fasteners. On the download there’s also a line drawing version you can colour in as you wish. Best printed on stiff card – why not make other characters from the play in a similar style?
